Poor BEx Workbook Performance in BW 7.0

I am experiencing some performance issues with BEx workbooks in BW 7.0.

When i run a query, the query returns in about 30 seconds. But when i embed the query in a workbook and run the workbook, it is taking about 20 minutes to return.

Is anyone aware of any performance issues with BEx workbooks in BW 7.0? I would appreciate any tips on performance tuning a BEx 7.0 workbook.

Thanks

hi Murugan,

There can be many various reasons causing poor performance in BEx.

One of them I faced was design of the multiprovider that query is based on and the way you select values for free characteristics in the workbook.

In some cases when you just type in the selection value in the workbook it will take much longer for query execution than if you made a similar selection with the selector. In my case it was caused by the large DSO connected to the multiprovider. Whenever the selection was done in the workbook all data in the DSO was searched even though the query was supposed to use only the cube.

As soon as the DSO was removed from the multiprovider performance on workbooks has improved substantially.

I am not sure if this is your case just wanted to share it with you.

Hi Sergei:

Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate it.

In my case, the MultiProvider does not have a DSO. It consists of only InfoCubes.

In my query, i have some data being queried on COPA Actuals InfoCube and some data being queried on GL Actuals and GL Budget InfoCube.

Even when i save the BEx workbook as an Excel Workbook and then try to open the Excel Workbook from my PC, that excel workbook takes a long time as well.

I am thinking of opening an OSS message. I did search OSS and found some messaged on BEx Analyzer performance and they have recommended some trouble shooting steps. I have to do that and see if there is anything already solved by SAP.

Thank you once again.

Murugan.
