Dear Michael,

We're in the middle of an implementation of Financials (FI/CO) and we are not yet using CHARM for end-to-end change management;  Is this something you typically recommend doing post go-live or have you seen CHARM being used as part of a project?   We struggle with approvals in transports as we have a manual process in place, and we'd strongly consider using CHARM if it makes sense. Many thanks.

Hello All

We are in the Analysis phase of implementing PSCD on the top of FI (ECC 6.0).  We have Sol Man installed on a Sand Box. We need to setup Blue Printing on Sol Man for this project, and I'm wondering if I would be able to set up the PSCD Business Scenarios in the Blue Print before installing PSCD (or should I have to install PSCD before?).

Thanks for your help.

How will the "live Q&A" work? Is there a chat tool available, do we have a phone conf line? Or is it just to post in this forum?

Mauricio – Thank you for the question!

I would recommend installing SPS 22 or above to get the latest content from SAP re: roadmaps, accelerators, etc.  SAP updates their roadmaps in Solution Manager via the ABAP component ST-ICO.  So, if you don’t feel comfortable moving all the way to SPS 26 for Solution Manager – you can move to a different version (at least SPS 22 in my opinion) and then apply the latest ST-ICO patches.

Once you’ve updated ST-ICO – you’ll have access to the latest roadmaps for Enhancement Packages, Business Objects, etc. – in addition to all of the accelerators SAP provides…

Almost forgot – you need to be on Solution Manager EHP1 (SPS18) or above to download and install Enhancement Packages for ERP, CRM, Netweaver, etc.

We are very new to Solutions Manager and I have been asked if objects like Function Modules can be stored in Sol Man.  If you could give an overview of what objects and can and cannot be stored that would be very helpful.

Gabriel!  Name me a customer who hasn’t had (or currently has) transport control issues?  It’s something we all struggle with during the normal lifecycle of running SAP.  A few questions…

  • Is your team geographically dispersed?
  • Are you planning to move transports together in one large release for Go-Live?
  • Do you want the ability to lock down who can create/release transports?
  • Would you like a Change Control Manager (or Change Board) to decide when transport move and not require Basis support?

If you answered yes to all of the above – then ChaRM would be a great fit.  We can force individuals to create a Change Request before a workbench request is created.  And we can better plan when testing resources will be needed.  If you are on Solution Manager SPS18 and above – we now have Quality Gate Management which enables us to input our project milestones.

Sounds amazing right?  It does take a significant amount of effort to configure, train and deploy.  So you’ll need to ask yourself can you stop now and spend 8-12 weeks on ChaRM?

Why so long?  There are only two standard change types by default in Solution Manager.  And you have to configure service desk, configure workflows, approvals, etc.  There is tremendous value in ChaRM – so don’t let me stear you away from it.  Maybe you could get by in this project by configuring basic Transport Workflow in TMS?

Please take a look at this great blog on ChaRM from Christine Kattas (link) and this article from Solution Manager Expert on ILN (link)

alhabibJabbar – Thank you for joining the conversation!

No need to wait on installing PSCD to start a project in Solution Manager.  Here in my lab I’m running Solution Manager SPS23 – and I pulled up the Business Process Repository to see what kind of content SAP has provided for PSCD – and I’m happy to report I see several business process examples listed.

These examples would be a great template for use during your Blueprint exercise – ad might even point out some gaps or things people had not thought of.

Good luck on the project!
