To channel a little Jerry Maguire, BI Expert author Puneet Kapoor had me at “less technical approach.”
Kapoor, a BW specialist at titanium supplier TIMET, writes in the new BI Expert about an easier way to store a Business Explorer (BEx) query’s result set back to a DataStore object using the Analysis Process Designer (APD), rather than facing a bulk of front-end calculations that increase your query runtime.
The APD is a workbench for the creation, execution, and monitoring of analysis processes.
You use a simple query to feed the direct connection via a Business Intelligence Consumer Services (BICS) or build an OLAP Universe through Query as a Web Service (QaaWS) to use in SAP BusinessObjects, Kapoor says in his article, “Use the APD to Reduce Your BEx Query’s OLAP Time.”
“You can easily achieve this using process chains,” he writes.
Kapoor takes you through the process of creating a DSO and then mapping between the DSO and query. In the figure below, the target structure is the DSO and the source structure is the BEx query.
