This week was a big one in terms of announcements from SAP and its partners. SAP released a few minor applications and solutions, but partners HP and Cisco made bigger news early in the week with HANA enhancements. HP developed a disaster recovery-based HANA system, and Cisco announced a few more new HANA servers, looking to improve performance.
With TechEd around the corner, you have to wonder what SAP's big announcement will be. Something related to the Business Suite's move to HANA? Even more improved performance? Or maybe -- and this would be the most important thing to the large pipeline they've developed -- some real-life case studies on what HANA has done. We've all heard how revolutionary it can be in theory, but the more they can show it in practice, the more success they'll have.
Monday: HP Announces HANA Insurance
Since the push is one about Big Data, it's hard to imagine the message of data loss and system recovery not connecting with potential HANA customers.
Tuesday: Cisco Announces New HANA Servers
Now, maybe it's just business-speak, trying to make HANA sound even more impressive to potential customers. But if Cisco was really "surprised" about the demand for HANA, doesn't that mean they were skeptical of SAP's message from the start?
Wednesday: SAP Users Complain About Difficult Licensing Options
For example, SAP has spent countless hours communicating about cloud and mobile, right? Well, this group is highly dissatisfied. A shocking 97 percent said SAP's migration path to the cloud is not well outlined.
Thursday: SAP Wants to Secure Your Work Information
This announcement indicates that SAP at the very least expects BYOD to be a policy adopted by enough companies for a long enough time that it's worth investing in.
Friday: Snabe on the Cloud, HANA, and Oracle
I'm always a fan of honesty -- or something close to it -- in business. So much of company's public commentary is filtered through marketing, PR, or sales (or a dreaded combination thereof), that for a CEO to say, "Hey, we weren't so great at _____" is refreshing.
